Pizza is a recipe that originated in Italy and has long since become one of the most popular foods around the world. Over the years, pizza has evolved and ingredients such as pepperoni have been added to it.
Pepperoni is the ingredient that has remained in force for a long time worldwide, but it might surprise you that this ingredient is not Italian as it sounds and here we tell you its history.
¿Italian-American?
The Pepperoni was born in the United States and is an American version inspired by Italian spicy salami, so it is considered Italian-American.
Pepperoni is a mixture of:
- Beef
- Pork meat
- Paprika
- Garlic
- Black pepper
- Crushed red bell pepper
- Cayenne pepper
- Mustard seeds
- Fennel seeds
Normally, a different mix of ingredients is used, but paprika can never be missing, as it is what gives color to pepperoni.
Where does pepperoni pizza come from?
The pizza that is eaten today had to go through many changes, since the Italian immigration to the United States in the twentieth century, immigrants combined their food traditions with American ingredients obtaining the delicious pepperoni.
Pepperoni has become a classic ingredient, although in Italy it is different. According to Italians, pepperoni refers to salami and there is a great variety of them.
For pizza lovers, pepperoni conquered them in the first instance, so pepperoni pizza has been considered one of the favorite foods in the world.
